Rules & Regulations
To help maintain the Dickinson Historical Cemetery as a sacred burial ground in all its natural beauty, for our beloved deceased, and complying with historical standards, the following rules and regulations will be observed:
- Permanent Grave Markers must be placed within one year of burial. Only Granite or Marble headstones and/or benches are allowed. Wooden or wrought iron benches and/or grave markers are not allowed. Plot owners must obtain permission for the setting of headstones and/or benches.
- All monuments, markers, benches, or other memorial, are the property of the individual purchaser. The Cemetery is not responsible for the upkeep of these items. All expenses incurred to keep monumentations from becoming unsightly through weather, vandalism, and general deterioration is the responsibility of the owner. The Cemetery shall have the right, at the owner’s expense, to correct the condition or remove items if unsightly, dilapidated or a safety hazard to visitors or landscapers
- One real or artificial flower arrangement per grave without a permanent vase will be allowed at the head of the grave. Floral saddles for headstones are allowed and recommended.
- No ornamental landscape planting will be allowed. Trees, approved by the Cemetery in writing, may be planted in approved locations. All others will be removed without notice to plot holders.
- Glass vases, flowerpots, ornaments, figurines, hooks, chimes, lights, fences, curbs, mulch or any other adornments will not be allowed. The Cemetery reserves all rights to remove and properly dispose of any unsightly items or withered flowers from grave spaces without notice to plot holders
- Small American flags are allowed on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, and Veterans Day in honor of deceased veterans. Flags will be removed after seven days. All other flags will be removed without notice to plot owners.
- Potted plants or small temporary displays at the head of the grave are permitted on the following days: Valentines, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Christmas items shall be permitted from Dec. 1st through Jan. 10th. All others will be removed seven days after those special days. Any other special days not mentioned must receive prior written approval from the Cemetery.
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed. Please keep pets leashed and pick up any pet waste.
- Special cases may arise in which the literal enforcement of a rule or regulation may impose unnecessary hardship. The Cemetery, therefore, reserves the right to make exceptions, suspensions or modifications of any of these rules and regulations, without notice, when in their judgment such action appears necessary. Such actions shall in no way be construed as affecting the general application of such rules and regulations. The Cemetery reserves the right to change or amend any part or all above rules and regulations for the cemetery without notice to the plot owners.
