When you visit
- Please visit during daylight hours and treat the grounds as the sacred place they are.
- Many graves are unmarked. Walk carefully and avoid stepping on low or sunken stones.
- Pets are welcome on a leash; please pick up after them. No alcoholic beverages.
- Gravestone rubbings and cleaning can damage old marble. Please ask us first.
Decorating a grave
- Flowers: one real or artificial arrangement at the head of the grave. Floral saddles for headstones are recommended.
- Holidays: potted plants or small temporary displays are welcome for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are removed seven days after the holiday; Christmas items may stay from December 1 to January 10.
- Flags: small American flags may honor veterans on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July and Veterans Day, and are removed after seven days.
- Not permitted: glass vases, pots, figurines, chimes, lights, fences, curbs, mulch or landscape planting.
Placing a headstone or bench? Markers must be granite or marble and need the cemetery’s permission first. Read the full rules and regulations.
