To help maintain the Dickinson Historical Cemetery as a sacred burial ground in all its natural beauty, for our beloved deceased, and in keeping with historical standards, the following rules and regulations will be observed.
Headstones, benches & monuments
- Permanent grave markers must be placed within one year of burial.
- Only granite or marble headstones and/or benches are allowed. Wooden or wrought-iron benches and grave markers are not allowed.
- Plot owners must obtain permission before setting headstones and/or benches.
- All monuments, markers, benches and other memorials are the property of the individual purchaser. The Cemetery is not responsible for their upkeep.
- All expenses to keep monuments from becoming unsightly through weather, vandalism and general deterioration are the owner’s responsibility. The Cemetery may, at the owner’s expense, correct the condition or remove items that are unsightly, dilapidated or a safety hazard to visitors or landscapers.
Flowers & decorations
- One real or artificial flower arrangement per grave, without a permanent vase, is allowed at the head of the grave. Floral saddles for headstones are allowed and recommended.
- Glass vases, flowerpots, ornaments, figurines, hooks, chimes, lights, fences, curbs, mulch or any other adornments are not allowed.
- The Cemetery reserves the right to remove and properly dispose of any unsightly items or withered flowers from grave spaces without notice to plot holders.
Holidays & flags
- Potted plants or small temporary displays at the head of the grave are permitted for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They will be removed seven days after the holiday.
- Christmas items are permitted from December 1 through January 10.
- Any other special days not listed must receive prior written approval from the Cemetery.
- Small American flags are allowed on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th and Veterans Day in honor of deceased veterans. Flags will be removed after seven days. All other flags will be removed without notice to plot owners.
Trees & planting
- No ornamental landscape planting is allowed.
- Trees approved by the Cemetery in writing may be planted in approved locations. All others will be removed without notice to plot holders.
On the grounds
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed.
- Please keep pets leashed and pick up any pet waste.
Exceptions & changes
Special cases may arise in which the literal enforcement of a rule or regulation may impose unnecessary hardship. The Cemetery therefore reserves the right to make exceptions, suspensions or modifications of any of these rules and regulations, without notice, when in its judgment such action appears necessary. Such actions shall in no way be construed as affecting the general application of these rules and regulations.
The Cemetery reserves the right to change or amend any part or all of the above rules and regulations without notice to plot owners.
